The story
“Stray cat population is substantial, some of the caregivers are at their limit”
From having conversations with my client and conducting user research I had to paint a gloomy image for all involved.
Stray cat population is substantial, some of the caregivers are at their limit and there is a lot of criticism about the municipality not doing what it should.
I want to take you through the journey of the design process and show you the methodology I used which is based on the design thinking discipline.
Let’s take a look at the process!
The goal
There are two main goals for this project
SUPPORT
UNITE
Create a platform that supports stray cats' caregivers in their everyday hardships.
Unite caregivers so they will have the power to change the municipalities approach towards stray cats.
The challenges
-
Turning a Facebook page into an interactive and engaging app
-
Making features and information accessible while maintaining a clean design
Benchmark
For this project I wanted to see how different apps look and feel and what kind of solutions they suggest.

Research Findings
"Their work is never done"
The findings of my research revealed that stray cats' caregivers are collapsing under the weight of the never-ending effort.
Their work is never done:
-
Feeding cats twice a day
-
Providing the TNR program (Trap, Neuter, Release)
-
Taking cats to vets and paying for it from their own pockets
-
Adopting and giving foster care
-
Looking for adoption homes
Pain Points & Frustrations
After receiving the information from the research phase, I could move on to the work of data analysis. Here are the main points causing the frustration of the caregivers.
Being alone
Sisyphean work
Lack of sufficient support from the municipality
Expensive treatments
Time consuming
"My life ended when my heart got opened and I began to see the suffering"
"Feeds and rescues street cats"
Personas
"20 stray cats and one at home"
"Caring for street cats for almost 20 years"
"We are tired of walking the streets and seeing so much suffering"
"I’m tending to dozens of cats every day,
sterilizing and castrating them at my expense as much as I can."
"I really hope things will change and the municipality will start doing its job more seriously."
"When will the state take care of it's cats?"

The inspiration for the color palette is taken from the streets of Tel Aviv. It is a refinement of the colors of the environment where the stray cats live.
